Brigid Florence Obituary

SALEM – Mrs. Brigid Marian (McManus) Florence, 59, of Salem, beloved wife of Charles J. Florence, died unexpectedly, April 15th, 2024 at her home.

Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late Deacon Lawrence R. and Barbara C. (Long) McManus. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of St. Pius V. School and St. Mary’s High School, Class of 1983. She continued her education at Salem State College earning her bachelor’s degree in Nursing in 1987.

Mrs. Florence had been employed as a Registered Nurse in the Labor and Delivery Department of Beverly Hospital for many years. She was a beloved member of the labor and delivery team and would often be remembered by families as helping them during that special time in their lives. She took great pride in her ability to assist mothers in bringing life into the world.

A longtime resident of the city of Salem, Brigid was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister and aunt. She had a deep passion for animals and was an affectionate granddog mother to Storm, as well as loving on all the neighborhood canine companions she crossed paths with. An avid Boston sports fan, she rarely missed a game and relished cheering on the Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and Pats with her son Joe by her side.

Brigid had a true Irish sense of humor. She was easy to laugh, funny as anything, quick to joke and lovingly poke fun of those she loved. She had an innate ability to make others feel better. Her ability to bring comfort to others and her ever present positive outlook on life are her everlasting hallmarks. She also had a love of food, good food, no spice needed type of food. Food brought her together with others and that is when she was most content. She loved to chat, laugh and watch her favorite game shows and turner classic tv programs.

Brigid left her mark in many ways on this earth, but none more important than her ardent care and advocacy for her son Joseph. There was no mountain that she would not climb to ensure that Joe received the best medical care possible. She was unrelenting, always with dignity and with her son’s best interest at heart. Family always came first for Brigid. Above all else. Her love held no bounds. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.

Brigid is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, Charles J. “Chuck” Florence of Salem, her children, Joseph C. Florence of Salem, Kyle Florence and his wife Sarah of Newton and Julia Florence of Salem, her siblings, Catherine Bennett of Wilmington, Kevin McManus of Salem, NH, Daniel McManus and his wife, Joanne of Westford, Joseph McManus of Plaistow, NH, Peter McManus of Dover, NH, Padre Paul G.
