Mr. Albert Homewood Griswold, 95, formerly of Brooksby Village, Peabody and Cos Cob, CT at home in Putnam Farms, Danvers, MA. Al slipped peacefully from this life to the next in his sleep on April 1, 2016.

He was born in Rocky Hill, Ct, the son of Maude Homewood and Hayden Leavenworth Griswold on August 29, 1920. He grew up in Manchester, CT and was educated at UConn and Columbia University.

He married the love of his life, Louise Chambers on July 14, 1944. He and Louise moved to Cos Cob, CT in 1953 and built the family home "the red house" there. He was a professor of Civil Engineering at NYU and then Brooklyn Polytechnic. Upon his retirement, he and Louise, a longtime school teacher, traveled the world, then moved to Brooksby Village to be closer to their beloved grandchildren.

Al was a past president of the American Society of Professional Engineers. He was a faithful congregant and one time Deacon of the Presbyterian Church of Old Greenwich.

Louise passed in 2009, one day short of their 65th anniversary, and despite his tremendous loss he was able to continue his interest in the Red Sox, UConn Women's basketball, classical music and the church. Describing himself as "happy and upbeat", his later years were kind to him and at the end he commented repeatedly on what a wonderful life with which he had been blessed.

Al is survived by his only child, Elysia "Lisa" Chambers Griswold and her husband Charles "Chuck" Kaplan and their two children, Emily Griswold Kaplan and Jillian "Jill" Griswold Kaplan all of Marblehead, his sisters-in-law, Marjorie and Lois, his cousins, Cora and Dwight Levick as well as countless friends and family near and far. He was also the brother of the late Hayden "Mike" Griswold Jr., and James "Jiggs" Griswold. May his memory be a blessing.

Arrangements: A memorial service will be held in the Peterson O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers, Saturday April 9, 2016 at 10 A.M.. Relatives and friends invited. A visiting hour will be held prior to the service from 9 to 10 A.M.
