Obituary

PEABODY- Mr. Alden Stokes Wood 86, of Peabody, beloved husband of Willette Ruth (Pye) Wood, died Wednesday October 30, 2013 at Brae burn Gardens at Brooksby Village. Born in Medford he was the son of the late Philip and Ruby Stewart (Carmichael) Wood. He was raised and educated in Melrose, a graduate of Melrose High School. Mr. Wood continued his education at Worcester Jr. College, Clark University and the University of Massachusetts. An honorably discharged veteran, Alden served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War Two. Mr. Wood had been employed as a professor at Simmons College where he attained Professor Emeritus; he was also a consultant for the American Heritage Dictionary and a professional writer in the Regan Report Magazine.

His favorite pastime was driving race cars and performing with the band at Brooksby Village. Alden had previously resided in Hingham. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, Alden was dedicated to his family, he will be deeply missed. In addition to his wife of 29 years Alden is survived his Step son Jeffery Brooks and his wife Jean of Saugus, his daughters Regina Wood Glass and her husband Dennis of Mt. Shasta, CA, Rita Alden Wood of Mt. Shasta, CA, his three step daughters Suzanne Williams and her husband Ronald of Middleton, Pamela Brooks of Colorado, Lisa Cicero and her husband Salvy of Somerville 2 grandchildren and 11 step-grandchildren and five step- great grandchildren. Husband of the late Rita Kolodziejczak and brother of the late Donald Wood. ARRANGEMENTS: As requested there will be no visiting hours.
