SALEM - Mrs. Ann Marie “Penny” (Reid) Chakoutis, 74, beloved wife of the late Harry Chakoutis of 56 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 13th, 2021, at the Kaplan Family Hospice House surrounded by family.
Born in Lowell, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Lorraine (Barlow) Reid. She was raised and educated in Lynn where she attended Lynn English High School. She went on to continue her education at Mansfield Beauty School, where she became a registered beautician.
Mrs. Chakoutis had been employed as an Aerobics Instructor in which she thoroughly enjoyed with the former Sophisticated Lady in Salem of all women for many years. At that time she also assisted her husband with their family business, Mr. Radiator of Lynn. Most recently, she worked in Early Childhood Education at the Gregg House Toddler Center in Lynn where she loved caring and playing with the infants and toddlers who filled her heart with such joy for many years.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother (nanny), great-grandmother, and sister, Penny was devoted to her family. She was happiest when surrounded by family and friends. Devoted to her faith, she was an active communicant of Sacred Hearts Church of Lynn. When her beloved children were young, she volunteered her time with the Campfire Girls and Boy Scouts. She enjoyed spending her time shopping and traveling with family for many years. She especially enjoyed her annual trips to Moultonborough NH with her sister and family, White Mountains, and in earlier years spending some of each summer on the Cape. All the holidays brought great joy to Penny but Christmas was always her favorite. She filled her house with the spirit of the season and loved spoiling her grandchildren and great-grandchildren year after year as did her late husband Harry. Every year they would all meet at the mall and the children would get to shop with them and enjoy the day together. Her family was paramount to her, above all.
Penny was a three time cancer survivor, overcoming those battles like any other she faced in her life, with such courage and strength, while still having her infectious laugh and wit. Her true beauty inside and out, was one that is just not found. She will be deeply missed and never forgotten by family, friends and all who ever got the pleasure to be in her presence.
Penny is survived by her daughter, her best friend, Danielle Chakoutis and her late companion, Scott King of Salem, her grandchildren, Scott Chakoutis Jr and his companion, Danielle Benyue, Ricky Chakoutis and his companion, Amanda Abreu, Brittney Janard and her companion, Nolan Markham, her great-grandchildren, Tye, Caylee, Damian and April, her sister, Donna Parini and her husband, John of Fremont, NH, her brother, Robert Reid and wife, Esther of Sandown, NH, her sister in- law, Carol Reid of Saugus, her daughter in- law Deborah Voyer of Beverly, many nieces and nephews and cousins. Penny was the sister of the late Richard Reid of Saugus and mother of the late Scott Michael Chakoutis of Beverly. Penny also leaves behind her beloved companion poodle, Eiffel Tower, who got his name because of how beautiful that monument was in her eyes.
