SALEM – Mr. Anthony Mento, 85, of Salem, beloved husband of Lena (Scialdoni) Mento, died unexpectedly, Saturday, September 26, 2020 at his home.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Anthony and Susan (Minigell) Mento. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1954. An outstanding and accomplished athlete, Anthony excelled as a member of the Salem Witches Varsity Football, Basketball and Baseball teams.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Air force.
Mr. Mento had been employed for many years with the City of Salem School Department. He worked in the Food Services Division and more recently had been a Custodian at the Carlton, Witchcraft Heights and Saltonstall School until the time of his retirement in 1996. He was also the proprietor of his own concessions business with locations on the North Shore.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Anthony was devoted to his family. A humble and kind man, he enjoyed spending his time golfing and cooking. He was a lifelong resident of the City of Salem and a member of the Christopher Columbus Society and the Lafayette Associates. He enjoyed games of chance, supporting all the professional Boston sports teams and spending time with family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Anthony is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Lena (Scialdoni) Mento of Salem, his children, Anthony Mento and his wife Patty of Salem, Ronnie Mento of Winthrop and Ann Marie Roberts and her husband Scott of Salem, his 7 grandchildren, Tiffany, Melissa, Michael, Deanna, Olivia, Daniel and Sofia, his 10 great grandchildren, his sister, Jeanette Church of Salem and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gloria Mineo and his late twin brother Joseph Mento.
