Bernice V. Jackson

MARBLEHEAD-Mrs. Bernice V. (Mendez) Jackson, 97, of Marblehead formerly of Salem, beloved wife of the late Charles A. Jackson, passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 at the Devereaux House in Marblehead.

Born in Springfield she was the daughter of the late Frank and Julia Mendez. She was raised and educated in Springfield and was a graduate of Springfield High School.

A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Bernice was devoted to her family and was happiest when surrounded by them. She was very proud of her children and their many accomplishments. They enjoyed family camping trips across the country visiting many states and national parks. Bernice was very excited when her grandchildren came along and loved to dote upon them. She liked nothing better than cooking and baking for family gatherings, especially Thanksgiving when all the family was there.

An independent woman, Bernice entered the work force after her children were grown. She went to work for the City of Salem School Department and worked in the lunch room performing a variety of tasks for many years. She was the beloved “Lunch Lady” who touched many students lives through her kind and caring nature. In her spare time Bernice loved to sew and work in her garden.

Surviving Bernice are her children, Pamela Jackson of Salem and Peter Jackson and his wife Julie of Marblehead, her grandchildren, Taylor Jackson of San Diego, CA and Nickson Jackson of Albany, NY and several nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Mary Michaud, Janet Davis and Thelma Mendez.

ARRANGEMENTS: A Celebration of Bernice’s Life will be held at a later date.
