Beverly Johnson Obituary

PEABODY- Mrs. Beverly A. (Hume) Johnson, 86, of Peabody, beloved wife of Reginald “Les” Johnson, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 8, 2020 at Brooksby Village Continuing Care.

Born in Roxbury, she was the daughter of the late Archibald M. and Lillian O. (Freeman) Hume. She was raised and educated in Roxbury and was a graduate of Roxbury High School for girls.

Mrs. Johnson began her career at the Boston Globe as a Classified Ad Taker, where she met her husband. Following the birth of her children, she stayed at home to raise their two children. She later returned to the work force and held several positions, eventually arriving at Addison Wesley Publishing where she was a Software Support Specialist for several years until the time of her retirement.

Devoted to her family, Beverly enjoyed providing a warm and loving home for her husband, sons and grandchildren. She was truly happiest when surrounded by family and friends. She had the gift of making friends where ever she went and was proud to foster those friendships for life. She always believed if you treated others well they would do the same for you.

A pioneer in many aspects of her life, Beverly was driven in her career, excited to work with new technology and always willing to help co-workers in any way.   Bev and Les were among the first people to venture into Brooksby Village. Beverly immersed herself in many activities; she was one of the first to be involved in the Brooksby TV station, and was a member of the church choir.  One of her favorite activities was speaking at orientations for new Brooksby employees. She was intelligent, driven, compassionate and generous with her love and time. She will be deeply missed.

Surviving Beverly in addition to her husband with whom she shared 63 years of marriage are her sons, Kenneth Johnson and his wife Tereen (Terry) of Pembroke and Phillip Johnson and his wife Maryann of Danville, NH, her grandchildren, Gregory Johnson of Boston, Brendan Johnson of Canton, Katelin Gibson and her husband Michael of Middleton and Kenneth Gregoire of New Market, NH and several nieces and nephews.
