SALEM – Mr. Carmelo “Memo” Marquez, 69 of Salem, loving husband of Jeanine Fraser-Marquez passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 26, 2022 in the comfort of his home with his devoted family by his side.
Born in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, Memo was the son of the late Pablo and Mercedes (Candelaria) Marquez. He was raised and educated in Puerto Rico until relocating to Salem where he attended Salem High School.
Memo dedicated over 30 years working as a machinist for Stone Productions in Lynn and Lighthouse Manufacturing in Peabody. Always staying busy, he also worked as a maintenance custodian at Salem State College for many years.
A longtime resident of the city of Salem, Memo could always be found at the park, hanging with friends and family. Memo was a fighter, who faced adversity with great strength and resilience. He loved to work on cars and watch the birds and boats passing by on a beautiful day.
Always looking at the positive, he had a great sense of humor and would always be the one to make others laugh. Above all else, Memo was all about his family and was truly a loving and devoted family man. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Jeanine with whom he shared 49 years of marriage, Memo is survived by his children, Anthony Marquez and his companion, Shannon Smith of Tampa, FL, Laurie Marquez-Perry and her husband, Brian of Nashua, NH, Renee Marquez-Byrd and her husband, Raquim of Nashua, NH and Kimberly Marquez and her companion, Michael Walton of Lynn; his 8 grandchildren, Anthony, Alexio, Jaydon, Isabella, Kayla, Dinah, Dennis and Jalisa, 2 great-grandchildren, Leianny and Alexio, Jr; his brothers, Alberto, Ignacio, Orlando and Geraldo; his sisters, Carmen, Filomena, Hilda and Ana and many nieces and nephews. Memo was the brother of the late Julio, Pablo, Ezequiel, Wilfredo and Xavier.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Memo’s funeral service which will be held from O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM on Friday, June 3rd at 3 P.M. Visiting hours prior to his service from 12 to 3 P.M. Burial will be private.
