PEABODY, MA- Mrs. Catherine "Cappy" (Knight) Dillingham, 84, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, formerly of Fairfield, CT, wife of Attorney Bruce E. Dillingham, died February 20, 2014. Born in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Donald and Frances (Perry) Knight. She was raised and educated in Brooklyn were she attended the Berkley Carroll School. She was a graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York. Catherine earned her Master's Degree of Education from Fairfield University and her Masters of the Natural Sciences Degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Mrs. Dillingham's passion was for environmental protection. She shared her love of the environment with her students as a science educator for 20 years at Roger Ludlowe High School. She was also an Adjunct Professor of Environmental Ethics at Fairfield University and was employed by the Environmental Defense Fund and the Natural Resources Defense Council. Catherine co-authored two books,Watersheds and Watersheds II. Her career path was guided by her devotion to the land and her grandchildren's future.

Catherine loved spending time at Lake George in New York with her extended family where she enjoyed canoeing, swimming, and playing bridge. She was an avid fan of the New York Metropolitan Opera and the New York Mets. She was a longtime friend of Bill W. and a member of the League of Women Voters. A resident of Fairfield, CT since 1953, Catherine and her husband moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA in November of 2013.

In addition to her husband of 62 years, Catherine is survived by her daughters, Ruth Dillingham and her husband Robert Curran of Hyannis, MA; Laura Bibler and her husband Gregory of Andover, MA; and Sallie Bowling and her husband Stuart of Topsfield, MA; her grandchildren, Sean and Mary Curran, Ashley and Stephanie Hargadon, Abigail Bowling and Ben, Sarah and Kathryn Bibler. She was also the sister of the late Donald Knight. She will be deeply missed by all of her devoted family.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to her Memorial Service which will be held in the First Church Congregational, 148 Beach Road, Fairfield, CT, on Saturday, March 1, at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Huletts Landing, New York in the spring. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., Danvers. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Catherine's memory to The Fund for Lake George ( www.fundforlakegeorge.org ).
