SALEM – Mr. Charles Robert Armstrong, 72 of Salem devoted husband of Patricia Kathryn (McNamara) Armstrong passed away on Sunday, February 7, 2021 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers with his loving wife by his side.

Born in Salem, Charles was the son of the late Ruth H. (Olsson) and Robert F. Armstrong. Raised and educated in Salem, Charles attended Salem High School. Growing up in the Salem Willows community and being a "Willows Rat" Charles developed many lifelong friendships that he cherished throughout his life. Immediately following high school, Charles enlisted in the United States Navy and proudly served his country through two tours during the Vietnam War.

Following his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Charles faithfully worked as a police officer on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C. Following in his father and grandfather's footsteps, Charles dedicated the remainder of his professional career working for the United States Postal Service as a Clerk until the time of his retirement.

Charles lived a full life of adventure, fishing, gardening, and friendships. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who went above and beyond for all he cared for.  He was extremely active in his community from being a 70 year generational member of the Juniper Community Club in Salem along with the VFW Post 1524, AOH- Division 18, and PLAV Post 55 in Salem. He was a 3rd Degree Knight and a member of the Knights of Columbus in Salem.

He provided his children with wonderful memories bringing them to "Kiddie Camp" where he enjoyed many summers being in the woods with his family, friends and dogs. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his beloved wife Patricia, with whom he shared 40 years of marriage, Charles is survived by his daughters, Kathryn Armstrong & her husband Albert Potorski, his granddaughter, Autumn Elizabeth Potorski all of Peabody, Margaret Armstrong & her fiancé Michael Williams of Salem, his sister, Sharon Armstrong of Salem, brother, Christopher Armstrong & his wife Rhonda of ME, his many nieces & nephews who he loved dearly and cherished as if they were his own.
