IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles Homer
Johnson

PEABODY - Mr. Charles Homer Johnson, 90 of Peabody, beloved husband of Betty Louise Johnson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at Brooksby Village in Peabody. Born in Boston, Homer, as he was lovingly known as by his family and friends (and "Charlie" to his Brooksby extended family); was the son of the late Charles and Esther (Larson) Johnson. Raised and educated in Quincy and Cambridge, Homer was a 1947 graduate of Rindge Technical High School and continued his education at North Park University in Chicago and Wheaton College in Illinois where he received his bachelor's degree in 1951 and his master's degree from Boston University in 1954. A veteran of the Korean War, Homer proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army. Devoted to the education of youth, Mr. Johnson spent his entire professional career as a Middle School Science Teacher for the Town of Concord where he taught many generations over his 36-year career. He was loyal to his staff and students and enjoyed each and every day he spent with them. Dedicated to his faith, Homer and his wife Betty were active parishioners of Cape Cod Covenant Church in Brewster, Trinity Covenant Church in Lexington and most recently the Brooksby Protestant Community. Homer held the position of Chairperson for the New England Seafarers Mission and was the first Camp Director for Camp Squanto at Pilgrim Pines in Swanzey, NH from 1959-1966. In his retirement, Homer remained active and involved with many different activities; at Brooksby he worked at C3TV, the Ham radio club, and enjoyed spending time in the woodworking shop. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. In addition to his wife Betty of Peabody with whom he shared 56 years of marriage, Homer is survived by his daughter, Carol Wood and her husband Dixon of Acton, his son, Naval Officer Charles A. Johnson and his wife Ann of Honolulu, Hawaii and his 6 grandchildren, Alexander and Reagan Wood, Charlie, Marianna, Michael and Peter Johnson.
