Miss Charlotte Goodnow Parrott 92, of Alma Lane, Danvers, died Thursday April 16, 2009 at Beverly Hospital surrounded by her family.

Born in Lynn, she was the daughter of the late George E. and Bertha Mabel (Parsons) Parrott. She was raised and educated in Lynn and was a graduate of Lynn English High School. She continued her education at Boston University earning her bachelors Degree and at Salem State College, earning her master's degree in Guidance. She had a quest for knowledge and furthered her studies with many advanced masters courses.

Upon her completion of school, Charlotte taught Women's Physical Education at Bates College in Maine. In 1946, she moved to Danvers and began her career at the former Holten High School as an educator of Physical Education. In 1948 she became the first Dean of Girls Physical Education in the Danvers School System and in 1958 she became the first Director of Guidance for the Town of Danvers School System and held this position until the time of her retirement in 1978. She was well respected throughout education circles for her compassion, guidance and love of her students.

Charlotte was an active member of the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church in Danvers and a former associate of the Maple St. Methodist Church in Lynn. She was active in professional circles having been a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association for many years and a member of the Danvers High School Athletic Hall of Fame. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, the Rainbow Girls of Danvers; she was a founder of the Boys and Girls club of Lynn and was well known for her pride in the Town and her commitment to the Danvers Community.

An avid outdoors woman, she loved to bike, golf and bowl. She was a passionate gardener and volunteered at Bingo at St. Mary's Church in Danvers. Her most memorable moments always came from her interaction with others, especially her dear friends and family. She truly enjoyed going to lunch with the girls and her shopping trips with her grand niece Gretchen. She will be remembered for her smile, dedication to athletics and her love of family and friends.

She is survived by her five nieces and nephews, Richard Parrott of New Hampshire, Nancy Bowdidge of Steep Falls, Maine, Karl A. Melanson of Marblehead, Susan Chabot of Danvers and Scott Melanson of Hartland, Maine, her many grand nieces and nephews, her many great grand nieces and nephews and her many great, great grand nieces and nephews, extended family and friends. She was also the sister of the late Willard Parrott and Ruth Melanson and dear friend and colleague of the late Ruth Kimball.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family at the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St. (Rte 62) Danvers, Saturday from 2 to 6 P.M. Her funeral service will be held Sunday at 1 P.M. in the Holy Trinity United Methodist Church, Danvers. Internment will be private.
