SALEM - Claire M. (Manning) Anderson, 79, of Salem, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2020, after a brief illness. Born, raised and educated in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Grace (Dullea) and John Manning.
Claire was retired from Salem Public Schools, where she taught Language Arts and Social Studies to eighth grade students for 42 years at Collins Middle School. During her down time, Claire kept busy driving a bus for the Michaud and Laidlaw bus lines, as well as working at Macy’s.
Claire loved traveling, especially on cruises and casino trips. Spending time with her family was also one of her favorite activities. Most summers she could be found at the beach running “Camp Nana” for all of her grandchildren.
Claire was predeceased by John P. “Jack” Anderson, her husband of 59 years. She is survived by daughters, Beth and her husband Ray LaMacchia of Lynn, and Jane and her husband Kevin Starion of Salem, sons, John and his wife Jodi (Kimball) of Limerick, ME, Kevin and his wife Kelly (Kerwin) of Peabody, and Richard and his wife Cheri (Broderick) of Litchfield, NH. Claire also leaves behind sister Jane (Manning) and her husband Stanley Froncki, Sr., of Salem, brother John Manning and his wife Cindy (Mello) of Salem. She also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Claire was also the sister to the late Mary (Manning) Kilpenan, and grandmother to the late Sarah “SAS” Starion, who passed in May 2020.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Claire’s visiting hours at O’Donnell – Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem on Tuesday, October 6th from 4 to 8 P.M. All other services are private. All attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family.
