Curtis Jones, Jr. Obituary

BEVERLY – Curtis E. Jones, Jr., 79 of Beverly, beloved husband of Susan G. (Little) Jones, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2020 at Beverly Hospital after a courageous fight with a brief illness.

Curtis, lovingly called Butch by his family and friends, was born in Salem, MA on February 27, 1941, son of the late Gertrude (Beaulieu Jones) White and Curtis E. Jones, Sr. He was raised and educated in Salem and Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School’s Trade School in 1960. While attending St. Mary’s School in Salem, he was a member of the St. Mary’s Drum & Bugle Corps which he enjoyed immensely.

Curtis worked tirelessly his entire life to provide for his family as an auto mechanic, oil burner technician, and general contractor. He proudly owned and operated his company, Curtis Addition Company and Curtis Kitchen and Bath Center in Danvers for almost 40 years and worked alongside several of his children and family members.

Curtis collected antique cars and was a former member of the North Shore Old Car Club with his wife Susan. He was a member of Second Congregational Church and previously was on the Board of Trustees of Immanuel Congregational Church and was active in both congregations. Curtis also loved to bowl and belonged to various leagues on the North Shore. He loved the Red Sox and attended countless games at Fenway with his family for many years. He avidly enjoyed cheering on his children and grandchildren at their various athletic events, cheering competitions and dance recitals.

His happiest moments were spent with his family boating, tubing and barbecuing at Chebacco Lake in Essex where he built his second home, “The Camp”.

He will be remembered for his kindness and playfulness, his unselfish acts and mostly his love for his family and them for him. He had a love for music and was always the first one up on the dance floor (and to the dessert table).

Curtis is survived by his wife of 50 years, Susan G. Jones of Beverly and his six children Cynthia L. Carbone and her husband Brian of Beverly; Mark D. Jones and his late wife Allison of Beverly; Robin L. Jones of Danvers; John P. Jones and his wife Brenna of Auburn, NH; Melissa L. MacDonald and her husband Steven of Danvers; and Curtis E. Jones, III and his partner Julie Cunha of Springfield, MA; his ten grandchildren Brittany (Flynn) Strangie and her husband Nicholas; Brianna Flynn and her boyfriend Ryan Cassidy; Christopher and Collin Carbone; Nathan Jones; Brendan and Ryan MacDonald; and Benjamin, Natalie and Owen Jones. His siblings include sisters Patricia Laforme and partner Thomas Potter, and Suzanne Frederickson; and brothers Douglas Jones and his wife Debra, Kenneth Jones, Michael Jones and his fiancé Tracy Duquette Zukofski; and many beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was previously deceased by his brother-in-law Robert I. Little, Jr.
