Obituary
PEABODY - Dianne A. VanNest, 87, died on Saturday, August 19th, 2023 at Brooksby Village Continuing Care in Peabody, of complications of COVID-19. She was born on November 23rd, 1935, in Stoneham, MA, a daughter of Kenneth F. and Anita (Gonzales) McCully.
Dianne attended schools in Saugus, MA, and graduated from the Northfield School for Girls (now Northfield Mt. Hermon) in Northfield, MA. She continued her education with courses at Boston University, among others.
She had a long and successful professional career as an accountant, real estate and insurance broker, and auctioneer. While living in Saugus, she was active in civic affairs as a PTA president, and a member of Town Meeting and the Saugus Chamber of Commerce.
Dianne lived an active life in retirement at Brooksby Village, where she cherished her time with the Brooksby Singers, Protestant Choir, Bible Study class, and earlier, Theater at the Pond. With her friends, she played cards and games, shared meals and shopping trips, volunteer opportunities, and many happy times. She was a talented musician and trained singer who played the piano and composed music throughout her life, giving pleasure to many.
Dianne is survived by her sister, Shirley Dumas (Catherine Gloeckler), niece, Sandra Dumas (Carol Giles), nephew, Matthew (Bobbi) Dumas, daughter, Kristin VanNest, three grandchildren, and other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents and former husband, George A. VanNest.
The family gives heartfelt thanks to the Care Dimensions/ Hospice team, especially Renee and Clarese, and to the Skilled Nursing staff at Brooksby, for their kindness and loving care of Dianne.
