Exeter, NH- Mrs. Dorothy (Kimball) Kraft Doran, 100, of Exeter, NH, died peacefully on July 1, 2021 at Riverwoods Exeter.
She was born February 3, 1921 to Carrie (Sawyer) and Linwood Kimball in Middleton, MA.
Dorothy graduated from Danvers High School, and the University of New Hampshire in 1943 with a degree in Mathematics. While at UNH she received the DeMerritt Memorial Scholarship, was president of the Mortar Board, editor of the yearbook, member of student government, treasurer of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and class secretary.
She taught mathematics at the Pingree School in South Hamilton, MA for 15 years. In Danvers, she was a deacon and trustee at the Maple Street Congregational Church and president of the Danvers Women’s Association. She was the first female president of the UNH Alumni Association, consequently earning the UNH Alumni Meritorious Service Award in 1966. She then served on the Board of Trustees, the Alumni Relations Committee, Educational Policy Committee and other committees from 1978 until 1992. She continued to write her UNH class ’43 newsletter for over 70 years.
Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was a talented professional, tireless community leader, always setting a wonderful example for others. Throughout her long life she enjoyed skiing, swimming, and golf, still playing until she was 96. She was happiest surrounded by her family at her lake house on Pine River Pond, NH, and greatly enjoyed searching the woods for lady slippers and picking blueberries with her grandchildren.
Surviving Dorothy are her four children, Gordon (Barbara) Kraft, Tevis Kraft, Laurie (Larry) Klotz and Linwood Kraft, seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, first husband, Leon Gordon (Jake) Kraft, Jr., second husband George Doran, sister Flora (identical twin), sister Shirley and brother John.
ARRANGEMENTS. Relatives and friends are invited to her funeral service which will be held graveside in North Beverly Cemetery, 685 Cabot St., Beverly, MA on Friday, July 30th at 11:00 A.M.
