SALEM – Mrs. Dorothy Mae (Lessor) Walsh, 97 of Salem, beloved wife of the late John V. Walsh, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, November 11, 2021 at the Jeffrey & Susan Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody.

Born in Salem, Dorothy was the daughter of the late James Lessor and Florence E. (McElroy) Lessor. Gertrude Lessor raised Dorothy as her own daughter. Dorothy was educated in Salem, she attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Salem’s Commercial School.

Mrs. Walsh committed her career to administration, working as a bookkeeper for Essex Bituminous Concrete Company for many years.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother, Dorothy went above and beyond to care for her family. A woman of great faith and tradition, Dorothy lived each day as a woman of God. She generously dedicated her time to numerous organizations including the Woman’s Friend Society of Salem, the Immaculate Conception Women’s Guild, volunteering at the church’s thrift shop along with Salem Hospital’s gift shop. She was truly a giving woman, special and kind. Dorothy was proudly recognized for being Salem’s Irish Woman of the Year. Her life was rich in love, memories and many people who cared about her. She will be deeply missed.   

Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Turner and her husband, Robert of Merrimac, MA, her two grandsons; Owen Devine and his wife, Kerry of Uxbridge, MA and Kenneth M. Walsh and his wife, Melody of Atkinson, NH, her great-grandchildren Jenna Devine, Cole Devine, and Finnegan Devine from Uxbridge, MA., Janelle LaBrie and her husband, Chad LaBrie of Groveland, MA., Joanna Long and her husband, Mark Long of Georgetown, MA., and Megan Walsh of Atkinson, NH. She was also survived by her step-grand daughter, Christine Masiello and her husband, Carmine of Amesbury, MA and Garry Tilton and his wife, Samantha of Matthew, NC.

She was predeceased by her loving son, Martin J. Walsh and his wife, the late Susan Walsh of the Villages, FL.

Dorothy was the loving Great Great Grandmother to Bradley LaBrie, Madison LaBrie, James Long, Benjamin Tilton and Maxwell Tilton. She was also survived by step Great Grandsons Carmen Masiello his wife Aubrey Masiello, step Great Greatson, Killian and Luca, and step great grandson, Casey Masiello and his partner, Lacey Collins.

ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Dorothy’s funeral which will be held graveside at St. Mary’s Cemetery, 226 North St., Salem on Monday, November 22nd at 10 A.M.
