Edward L. Waters

PEABODY - Edward L. Waters, 86, of Peabody, MA, passed away peacefully March 13, 2023 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, MA. Ed was the devoted son of Mary E. and James T. Waters, and brother of Mary E. O’Neill and James E. Waters. He is survived by his nieces and nephews: Peggy, Ted, Jennifer and Katie Waters, and Frank, MJ, and James O’Neill, as well as 15 grand and great nieces and nephews.

Born in Salem, MA in 1936, Ed was a lifelong resident of 5 Stevens St. Peabody. Ed graduated from Peabody High School, Boston College and Harvard University with a Master’s degree in Chemistry.

Ed was fascinated by genealogy and history, and enjoyed research at the Boston Public Library. He was always willing to support his family. He cared for his mother until she was 103 years of age, and that generous spirit carried over to his nieces and nephews, taking them ice skating, skiing, going on beach outings, playing cribbage, making “Uncle Ed Bread”, and supporting them as they pursued their education with warm meals and a welcoming place to stay. He traveled all over the country, and even to Ireland, to visit his far-flung family. In his later years he found companionship with a special Australian Shepherd named Gizmo. Ed will be missed by all those who loved him.
