PEABODY – Edwin Stanley Busch, MD, 99, of Peabody, loving husband of Priscilla E. (Vaillancourt) Busch, passed away peacefully on January 6th, 2024, at Brooksby Village in Peabody, MA.
Born in Camden, New Jersey, Edwin was the son of the late Adam and Bernice (Guzy) Busch. He was raised and educated in Camden and was a graduate of Camden High School.
Following his high school graduation, Edwin was drafted by the United States Army and embarked on a thirty-year career with the military as a Physician.
Edwin received his M.D. from Tufts University of Medicine and did his residency at Childrens Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. Specializing in pediatrics and neurology, Edwin had fellowships at several hospitals including Childrens Hospital in Boston, MA, Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD, and Walter Reed Army General Hospital in Washington DC.
Rising to the rank of Colonel, Edwin held the title of Chief of Pediatrics at U.S. Army hospitals both domestic and abroad. Hospitals in the U.S. including Valley Forge, PA, Fort Benning, GA and abroad in Germany including Munich, Berlin, Heidelberg, and Frankfurt. Edwin concluded his U.S. Army career as Chief of Professional Services at Fort Devens, MA in 1974 with an honorable discharge.
Upon retirement from the U.S. Army, Edwin held the position of Associate Chief of Staff at the Veterans Administration hospital in Bedford, MA for four years until his retirement in 1978. Post retirement, Edwin provided pediatric and neurologic consulting services. Throughout his life, Edwin held several medical society memberships including the Massachusetts Medical Society and American Academy of Pediatrics.
Fondly remembered as extremely intelligent, Edwin’s thirst for knowledge went well beyond his professional career and was driven by his fascination in a broad array of areas including history, religion, business, and music. An avid reader, Edwin loved to stay up to date on relevant topics and engage in conversations from “Physics to Tom Brady.” A lover of symphony, classical and big band music, Edwin was captivated by all instruments and known for his uncanny ear, naming any instrument by simply hearing its sound. Edwin worked hard to provide for his family and relished the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. His deep love for his family will be forever remembered. He will be missed greatly.
In addition to his wife, Priscilla of Peabody, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage, Edwin is survived by his children; Denise Crebase and her husband, Paul of Spofford, NH, Danielle Kane and her husband, Robert of Red Wood City, CA and Edwin H. Busch and his wife, Lisa of Reading; his 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Edwin was the brother of the late, Norbert Busch.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Edwin’s funeral Mass which will be held at St. John the Baptist Church, 17 Chestnut St., Peabody on Thursday, January 11th at 11 A.M. Visiting hours prior to the Mass at the church from 10:30 to 11 A.M. Burial in Fairview Cemetery, Westford, MA will be held on Friday, January 12th at 11 A.M. Assisting the family with the arrangements is O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) DANVERS.
