Elizabeth Lowe Obituary

SALEM – Mrs. Elizabeth Jane (Mohrmann) Lowe, 99 of Salem, beloved wife of the late John R. Lowe, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 18th, 2021 at the Brookhouse Home for Women in Salem, with her loving family by her side.

Born in Waukegan, Illinois, Betty was the daughter of the late Cyril and Lillian J. (Walton) Mohrmann. Raised and educated in Waukegan, she was a graduate of Holy Child High School and continued her education at St. Therese Hospital School of Nursing in Illinois.

A truly nurturing and caring woman, Betty devoted her professional career to the healthcare industry working as a Registered Nurse for The Mary A. Alley Hospital in Marblehead. During her career, she tended to many clients throughout the North Shore. At the time of her death, she was the last nurse to have worked at the time of its closure. With a passion for healthcare research, Betty participated in The Nurse’s Health Study under the direction of Brigham & Women’s Hospital and Harvard University for over 45 years. In her early professional career, she was a nursing instructor for the United States Cadet Nurse Corp. She was recognized for Meritorious Service as an instructor training nurses during World War II. She met her loving husband, John, at a dance at the Catholic USO near Great Lakes Naval Training Center.

Devoted to her Catholic faith, Betty was a long-time communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Salem. It was her faith that enhanced her life and helped to mold her into the remarkable woman that she was. She was proud to be a member of the Catholic Daughters of America since 1950 and was also a member of the Woman’s Friend Society in Salem; always giving back and helping others in any way she could. Betty was a loving wife, mother, nana, sister and friend who truly went above and beyond for her family. She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Brookhouse Home for Women for the wonderful, loving and personal care their mother received. They will be forever grateful.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Madeline Osiecki and her husband, Retired United States Navy Commander Arthur Osiecki of Jacksonville, FL, her son, Michael Lowe and his wife Joan of Salem, her daughters-in-law, Eileen Lowe, wife of the late Richard Lowe of Salem and Sandra Lowe, wife of the late Philip Lowe of Beverly, her 12 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and many dear friends and close neighbors. Elizabeth was the mother of the late Richard and Philip Lowe and sister of the late Mary Louise Joliat and Richard L. Mohrmann.
