DANVERS – Mr. Eric Keith Wormstead Sr., 76, of Danvers, beloved husband of Mary Jane (Dwyer) Wormstead, died Thursday, February 11th, 2021 at Beverly Hospital.

Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Harold and Alice (Wright) Wormstead. He was raised and educated in Saugus and was a graduate of Saugus High School. An outstanding athlete, Eric excelled as a member of the Saugus High School Varsity Football team and was the first underclassman selected as an Agganis All Star. He continued his education at Bridgewater State College, earning his Bachelors Degree in Education and was a member of the Varsity Football Team. 

Mr. Wormstead devoted his life to education and the Danvers School Department. He taught 3rd, 4th and 5th grades at almost every Elementary School in the Town of Danvers until the time of his retirement in 2002. He was beloved by many students. His life long passion for athletics and competition drove him into coaching. He was the trainer for many years for the Danvers High School Falcons Football team and coached soccer and swimming for many years. He was also volunteered as an official starter for the Danvers Varsity Track and Field team. He loved the energy of Interscholastic athletics and the joy that it brought the students.

 Eric was the founder and proprietor of Wormstead & Son Landscaping. In retirement he worked as a consultant in the Educational field with Delta Education Company.  

A lifelong athlete, Eric played Men’s League Softball and Soccer and relished in the camaraderie of his fellow teammates. He also enjoyed gardening, travel and spending time with his beloved family. He was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and St. Richard Parish in Danvers. Above all else family was paramount in his life.

Eric is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Jane (Dwyer) Wormstead of Danvers, his children, Elaine Koskela of Nashua, NH, Eric K. Wormstead, Jr and his wife, Nicole of Bradford and Nathan Wormstead and his long-time companion, Michelle Malozzi of Danvers, his grandchildren, Cole and Jake Koskela and Noah Wormstead, his brother, Lloyd Wormstead and his wife, Linda of Saugus and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers, Wednesday, Feb. 17th at 10:45 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., Danvers, MA 01923, Tuesday, Feb. 16th from 4 to 7 P.M. All attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family.
