DANVERS - Francis “Sonny” Bertone 86, of Danvers, beloved husband of Madeleine (Caracciolo) Bertone, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, November 25th, 2020.
Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Antonio and Mable (Wilson) Bertone. He was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School, Class of 1953.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.
Frank had been employed with the United Shoe Machinery Corporation for many years, but he was best known for working at the North Beverly Variety store.
A long-time resident of the Town of Danvers, Sonny was devoted to his family. He was an amazing baker and enjoyed sharing his baked goods with neighbors’, friends and local police and fire departments. He was a kind, generous and thoughtful man who had a warm smile which was ever present and who had even a bigger heart. His hobbies included, cooking, attending flea markets and completing his Word Search books. He also enjoyed his time as a member of the Cape Ann Sportsman Club.
Sonny was a devoted supporter of Beverly High School Football for 60 years and held the Down Markers at Hurd Stadium. He never missed a game and was a treasured member of the Panther Football Family. Yet above all else family always came first. He played an instrumental role in his family’s lives and he will be deeply missed.
Sonny is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Madeline (Caracciolo) Bertone of Danvers, his son, Richard of Worcester, his daughters, Dianna Elliott and her husband Gerald of Mystic, CT and Tina Dougal and her husband Steven of Danvers, his grandchildren, Christopher, Stephanie, Brittany, and Spenser, his great grandchildren, Connor and Cillian, his siblings, Larry Bertone of Salem, Lorraine Boisvert of Florida, William Bertone of Florida, and Janice Bouchard of Danvers and several nieces and nephews. He was the grandfather of the late Jennifer Elliott and brother of the late Anthony Bertone.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours in the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Wednesday, Dec. 2nd from 4 to 6 P.M. All attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family. All other services are private.
