DANVERS – Frank George Nolan, age 85, of Danvers died on Wednesday, September 23, 2020 following a lengthy illness.  He was the husband of Loretta Leonora (Salvo) Nolan.

Born in Salem, he is the son of the late Frank George Nolan and Anna Louise Guerriero. He was the brother of the late Sandra Ann Kerrigan.

Frank attended school at St. Mary's Grammar School in Salem and St. Mary's High School for Boys in Lynn, where he played on the basketball team. In 1958, he graduated from Merrimack College with a bachelor's degree in history. In 1963, he graduated from Salem State College with a master's degree in education and later completed graduate studies in education administration at Boston College. Frank taught American History at Salem High School for 38 years; he also served as department head. He served as President of the Salem Teachers Union as well as President of the Massachusetts Federation of Teachers. A communicant of St. Mary of the Annunciation Church in Danvers, he and his wife were past Presidents of the Catholic Couples Club and greatly enjoyed talking with fellow parishioners over coffee after Mass.

During the Korean War, he proudly served his country with the U.S. Army Security Agency, 13th Field Station at Menwith Hill, Yorkshire, England. 

He served the local community as a member of the Salem Bicentennial Committee, Witch Trials Tercentenniary Committee, and as a past member of the Danvers Town Meeting. He was active in the Little League and other community groups.

In addition to his wife of 52 years, he leaves a son, Frank George Nolan, III, who is an Associate Chief Counsel at the Drug Enforcement Administration, and his wife Mary Beth, who live in Virginia, and a daughter Tara Nolan Naves, M.D., and her husband Paul, who live in Milford. He also leaves his grandchildren, Francis, Matthew, and Grace, and many nephews and nieces. 

He enjoyed spending time with his extended family, travelling with his wife; collecting coins, stamps, and political memorabilia; and researching his family's ancestry.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers, Tuesday, Sept. 29th at 11 A.M. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home at 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers, Monday, Sept 28th from 3 to 7 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to all services. All attendees are required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing and are respectfully asked for no physical contact with the family.
