Peabody - Mr. Herbert George Stahl, age 91, of Brooksby Village, Peabody, died at North Shore Medical Center after a brief illness on Thursday, October 11, 2012.
Herbert was born August 13, 1921 in the Bronx, New York. He was the son of the late Frank and Mary (Eise) Stahl.
He was married to Ruth Elaine Pasewark on December 5, 1943 at Woodlawn Heights Presbyterian Church in the Bronx, New York. While in high school, he achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He received his Bachelors of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering in three years from Brooklyn Polytechnical Institute in 1943, and was trained at Harvard University in advanced radar and electronics for military service.
Herbert served in the United States Army in New Guinea as First Lieutenant in the 1015th Signal Company, 58th Service Group and was decorated with the World War II Victory Medal and Pacific and American Theater Ribbons. He received an honorable discharge after three years of service.
After his service to his country, he had been employed by the General Electric Corporation for 29 years in various engineering, sales and marketing roles, relocating with G.E. from Beverly, to Erie, Pa. to Scotia, N.Y. to Waynesboro, Va. and to Topsfield, MA. He then retired to Lake Winnipesaukee in Meredith, N.H., and finally moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody where he has since resided and been very happy.
Herbert is survived by his three children, Herbert Stahl Jr. of Philadelphia, Larry Stahl and his wife Kathy (Vogt) of Spring, Texas; and Robin Gendron and her husband Wayne of North Andover; his five grandchildren Jessica (Stahl) Bailey, Zachary Gendron, Timothy Stahl, Nathan Gendron and Sarah Stahl; his seven great-grandchildren Kennedy, Mckenzie, Kamdyn and Bentley Bailey, Sophia and Aubrey Stahl, and Libby Gendron. Herbert was predeceased by his wife Ruth of 65 years on April 29, 2009 and by his younger brother Frank Stahl, Jr.
Herb enjoyed life and he made the most of it! The family thanks you for your prayers.
ARRANGEMENTS: Funeral services will be held in Herb's honor on Saturday, October 27at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel at Brooksby Village, Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody. The worship will be led by Rev. Ann Abernethy and will include military honors. A reception will follow the service at Brooksby Village. Assiting the family with the arrangements is The Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Dan- vers. In lieu of flowers, Memorial funds in honor of Herbert George Stahl's World War II service can be donated to "Operation Homefront" 8930 Fourwinds Drive, Suite 340, San Antonio, TX 78239.
