DANVERS- Mr. J. Arthur Barrowclough, age 88, of Danvers, died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in the presence of his loving family on Monday, August 3. He was the beloved husband of Edna (Chase) Barrowclough.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late John U. and Ada (Chattaway) Barrowclough. He was raised and educated in Beverly.
An honorably discharged veteran, he proudly served his country during World War II as a member of the United States Navy. A machinist by trade, he had been employed as a foreman in the manufacturing industry for many years having worked at United Shoe Machine Corporation in Beverly for 27 years and at the time of his retirement, he was employed by GTE Sylvania for over 15 years.
Arthur enjoyed the outdoors and hiking, spending time with his family, and was well known for having climbed Mt. Washington many times as well as traveling throughout the country with his family. He was a member of the Emmanuel Congregational Church of Beverly where he served as a deacon. He was also a life member of the American Legion.
In addition to his wife with whom he shared 63 years of marriage, Arthur is survived by two daughters: Lee Barrowclough and her husband Roger Foster of Rowley, Shirley Barrowclough-Durkee and her husband William of Danvers; three sons: Bruce Barrowclough and his wife Debra of Danvers, John Barrowclough and his wife Brenda of Groveland and William Barrowclough and his wife Susan of Nottingham, NH. He is also survived by 5 grandchildren, Keith Barrowclough and his wife Christy, Justin Barrowclough, Adam Harriott and his wife Aimee, Felicia Barrowclough, and Amy Barrowclough. He was also the grandfather of the late Melissa Barrowclough and Jessica Barrowclough. He was the great grandfather to Madison, Kyle, Ella, Trent, Parker, Sawyer, Hunter, and Logan. He was the brother to Dorothy Zwicker and her husband Paul of Danvers, Jimmy Main and his companion Linda Peters of Beverly. He was also the brother of the late Hope Daniels and Donald Barrowclough.
ARRANGEMENTS- His Funeral Service will be held in the Immanuel Congregational Church, 140 Bridge St. Beverly, Friday, August 7th at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting Hours in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St. (Rte. 62) Danvers on Thursday, August 6th from 4 to 7 P.M.
