SALEM – Mr. James Michael O’Connell 61, of Salem, beloved husband of Sharon (Jenness) O’Connell, passed away Thursday, April 21st, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Salem, he was the son of Pauline (Viselli) O’Connell and the late James Patrick O’Connell. He was the step-son of the late Edmund Maggiacomo. He was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem Vocational High School, class of 1978. He continued his education at the Peterson School.
Jim began his professional career as a glazer at North Shore Glass in Salem. He worked in the glass industry for many years. In 1995 he began a 25-year career in Plant Operations with Beverly Hospital and more recently working at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester until the time of his retirement. He was well respected for his dedication to his profession.
A loving husband, father, papa, son, brother and uncle, Jim was truly devoted to his family and loved spending time together. He was blessed in marrying Sharon and having the opportunity to be a dad.
Jim was a self-taught electric guitar player and member of the “Damaged Goods” band. He coached Beverly Youth Soccer for many years. He was a skilled woodworker and furniture maker, having built much of the furniture in his home and completed many home remodels over the years. Jim loved riding his motorcycle, cooking and watching football. He especially loved spending time with his dog, “Harley”.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Jenness) O’Connell of Salem, his daughters, Jessica Connolly of Danvers and Jamie Grandmont and her husband Brett of Lakeville, MN, his granddaughter, Brynn, his mother, Pauline (Viselli) O’Connell, his siblings, Pamela Wiley of Beverly and Joseph O’Connell of MO, his sisters-in-law, Ann Marie Meilbeck of Fl and Patricia Ann Loos and husband David Loos of GA, his brother-in-law, Michael Jenness and his wife, Jeannie of Fl and several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was the brother of the late Paula Moody, son-in-law of the late Wendell and Susan Jenness and brother-in-law of the late Gordon Wiley and Robert Meilbeck.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held at O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM, Friday, May 20th, at 11:30 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours prior to the service from 9:30 to 11:30 A.M.
