SALEM – Ms. Jane E. Litchford, 74, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 29th, 2023. Born in Huntington, NY she was the daughter of the late George B. Sr and Doris (Cahill) Litchford.
Raised and educated in New York, Jane graduated from Northport High School class of 1967. She went on to further her studies, attending Bennett College in upstate New York for her undergraduate program, later attending Claremont University in California, before transferring to Keene State University in New Hampshire where she obtained her Masters of Education. With a passion to help others, Jane found her true calling with working in social services for those in need. She was employed at the Cummings Center in Beverly for 25 years, before retiring in 2009.
Growing up in New York, Jane had a love for everything outdoors. At an early age she fell in love with horses, and became a true equestrian from that point on. She loved spending time with her horses on her family property, riding and taking care of them. Jane indulged in multiple outdoor activities, whether it be trips to the mountains for skiing or hiking, she loved surrounding herself in nature. After her move to New Hampshire, she began exploring the local forests and conquered the entire Presidential Range. Jane was a free spirit, and loved attending concerts and festivals in the 60’s and 70’s, meeting some of the greatest musicians in history.
Jane is survived by her companion of 28 years, Thomas E. O’Neil of Salem, and her brother, Dr. George B. Litchford, Jr. and his wife, Marla Brassard of Glenmont, NY.
