IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Janelle Lavender
Tobin
September 8, 1996 – November 24, 2018
DANVERS - Miss Janelle Lavender Tobin, 22, of Danvers entered eternal rest on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family following a valiant battle with Ewing's Sarcoma, an extremely rare form of bone cancer. Born in Salem, she was the daughter of Patrick and Janis Lee (Lavender) Tobin. She was raised and educated in Danvers and attended the Smith School, Holten-Richmond Middle School and a graduate of Danvers High School Class of 2015. Currently, she was enrolled at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst, on track to graduate in May of 2019.
During her high school years, Janelle was active in many clubs and organizations. She was a member of the Danvers High School Falcons Varsity Cheerleading Squads and excelled as an officer of the DECA Program. She was a long-time member of the Maple Street Congregational Church in Danvers, where she participated in mission trips. Janelle lived life to the fullest and took on any and all adventures that came her way. Janelle was either at the yoga studio, tearin' up the mountains in the winter, whipping up a delicious healthy (usually vegan) meal, or hanging with friends at the Ski and Board house. Janelle is currently the co-president of the UMass Ski and Board Club. She also spent the last two years working with the UMass-Amherst based nonprofit, Protect Our Breasts, an organization that focuses on sharing the conversation about chemicals in products that contribute to cancer, and empowering women to make safer choices. Janelle had a passion for marketing and connecting with other people. She spent a summer as an intern at Salem Five Bank Marketing Department. Her personality was vibrant, colorful and unforgettable. She was adventurous, kind, loving, nurturing and stronger than anyone could ever imagine. She spent a semester abroad in Amsterdam and traveling Europe. She chronicled her travel experiences and later her battle with cancer on her blog: climbingontrees.com. She made friends easily and enjoyed sharing her passions of skiing, travel and vegan cooking with others. Her smile would light up the largest of rooms.
Janelle is survived by her loving parents, Salem Fire Department Lieutenant, Patrick and Janis Lee (Lavender) Tobin of Danvers, her sister and best friend, Holly Tobin of Danvers, her maternal grandparents, Raymond and Janett Lavender of Danvers, her paternal grandparents, James and Barbara Tobin of Salem, her aunts and uncles, Joanne Lavender of Salem, Mary Tobin of Danvers, Dean and Beth Lavender of Wrentham and Timothy and Marie Tobin of Beverly, her cousins, Derek Lavender, Carly Lavender and Emily Tobin, her beloved canine companion Max and many extended family and a multitude of cherished friends. She was the cousin of the late Brendan Tobin.
