DANVERS - Joan C. Benson, age 97, of Danvers passed away peacefully on September 9th, 2023 at her residence, Seasons of Danvers.
She was born in North Easton, MA to Josephine and Chester Peterson. She was active in the youth group at the Swedish Covenant Church where she met Norman, her husband of over 60 years. The family settled in Lynn, where they had three daughters, eventually moving to their home in Danvers. Joan’s enduring faith and church community were an integral part of her life. She was a lifelong member of Community Covenant Church in West Peabody, MA.
She was an animal enthusiast, having many pets over the years including dogs, cats, and birds. She was an avid baker, and over her lifetime baked hundreds of Swedish coffee breads and thousands of Swedish coffee buns. Joan was a talented seamstress and made all of her daughters’ prom dresses. She also enjoyed ceramics.
Joan spent a lifetime of summers at her family’s cabin at Butter Point in Waldoboro Maine, on a peninsula on a tidal river. There, she enjoyed her gardens as well as caring for the land’s many birds and critters.
She is survived by her daughters, Deborah (Charles) Clark of Boise, ID; Sharon (Stephen) Burnham of Danvers, MA; and Holly Benson of Montgomery, AL.
