Joan Giardi Obituary

SALEM – Mrs. Joan M. (Collatos) Giardi, 81, of Salem, beloved wife of the late Rocco Matthew Giardi, died Friday, September 24, 2021 at her home.

Born in Salem, she was the daughter of the late Mary Collatos. She was raised and educated in Salem and was a graduate of Salem High School, class of 1958.

Mrs. Giardi was first and foremost dedicated to her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. While her children were young, she worked as a teacher’s aide in the Salem Public Schools. Later she had been employed for many years as a Quality Control Inspector with E.G & G. until the time of her retirement.

A life long resident of the City of Salem, family was paramount in Joan’s life. She supported her husband and children in all of their endeavors. She enjoyed traveling, was an expert crossword puzzle finisher and loved to play Bingo and cards. She had a deep love of flowers, enjoyed decorating her home and always treasured a good shopping spree. Above all else she was happiest while surrounded by her entire family. Upon becoming a grandmother, she beamed with pride. She never missed a grandchild’s event, as she was their most ardent supporter. Grammy loved to watch her grandchildren be happy as it brought her the greatest joy. She treasured time supporting and attending all of her nieces, nephews and extended families’ athletic events over the years. She was ultimately proud of all of her families’ accomplishments and will be remembered for her unwavering love and devotion to all. Lastly, Joan was affectionately known as “Mrs. G” to all the neighborhood kids and her children’s friends throughout the years.

Joan is survived by her son, Jon R. Giardi of Salem, her two daughters, Patricia (Giardi) Correale and her husband, Michael of Peabody and Kimberly (Giardi) Whitt of Jacksonville, N.C., her six grandchildren, Mandy Maryanski, Michael and Matthew Correale, Justin and Cody Whitt and Shane Walter, her great grandchildren, Luke, Logan and Michael Jr. and many nieces, nephews and extended family.
