DANVERS – Mrs. Joanne E. (Ballou) Barry, 88, beloved wife of the late Paul R. Barry, died August 28 th, 2021 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers.

Born in Medford, she was the daughter of the late Earl and Leontena (Marquebreck) Ballou. She was raised and educated in Medford and was a graduate of Medford High School, class of 1950. She continued her education at Chandler Business School of Boston.

Mrs. Barry had been employed for over 20 years with the Hogan Regional Center as an Administrator until the time of her retirement.

A devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joanne dedicated her life to her family and supported her family in all of its endeavors. As the matriarch, she was an incredible role model who quietly sustained an active and growing family. A resident of the Town of Danvers for most of her life, Joanne enjoyed attending many of her grandchildren’s athletic, dance and cheerleading competitions. Outside of spending time with her family, Joanne was an avid fan of the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and she regularly completed puzzles and actively watched Jeopardy.  She was happiest when surrounded by her beloved family and friends and will be deeply missed by all she knew.

Joanne is survived by her children, Therese Turpin and her husband, David of West Harwich, Ann Marie Sweeney of Danvers, Paul R. Barry Jr. of Old Saybrook, CT and Michael Barry and his wife, Kelly of Andover, her 11 grandchildren, Meghan, Patrick, Nancy, Maryellen, Kristen, Caitlin, Hannah, Alexandra, Peter, Kathryn and Brooke, her great grandchildren, Logan Paul, Trevor, Drew, Julia, Brendan, Ryan, Riley and Chloe, her sister, Margaret James of Saugus, her brother, Earl Ballou Jr of Saugus and several nieces and nephews.  She was the sister of the late Marie Mulligan, Grace Fitzgerald and Walter J. Ballou. she was also the mother-in-law of the late Richard Sweeney.

ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral will be held from the Peterson-O’Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Wednesday, September 1st at 9:30 A. M. followed by her funeral Mass in St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers at 10:30 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Annunciation Cemetery, Danvers. Visiting hours Tuesday, August 31st from 5 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joanne’s memory to the Kaplan Family Hospice House, C/O Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers.
