DANVERS – Mr. Joseph J. Arno, 90, beloved husband of the late Catherine Arno, died peacefully Tuesday, September 14, 2021, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Born and raised in Salem, son of the late James and Josephine (Bertuccio) Arno, he was educated in the Salem School system until his enlistment in the United States Navy, where he served 4 years aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Hugh Purvis DD 709 during the Korean War.
Upon his honorable discharge from the United States Navy, Joseph met and married his wife, Catherine, and moved to Danvers where they raised their family.
Joseph worked in the computer / data processing industry in various management positions, before joining forces with a lifelong friend to manage a small manufacturing company, until his retirement in 1993.
Joseph was happiest when caring for and enjoying time with his family. He will be remembered for cooking the ‘biggest and best’ turkey at Thanksgiving dinners; dropping in on family and friends for coffee and conversation; having the straightest lined, freshly mowed lawn in the neighborhood; but mostly for sharing his abundance of love and support to all that met him. His gifts of providing compassion, love and inspiration will be missed by all.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Catherine A. Arno of Danvers, his son, James Todd Arno of Peterborough, NH, his granddaughter, Sherri Arno of Danvers, his brother, Richard Arno and his wife Shirley of Salem, his sister-in-law Barbara Crean of Danvers, and his brother-in-law Bill McKinnon of Danvers. He was the brother of the late Ann Casellini, Adele McKinnon, and Eleanor Gaudette.
