Mr. Joseph W. Larkin 94, of Sebastian, Florida, formerly of Danvers, a retired Sales Manager, husband of Avina M. (Smith) Larkin and the late Elizabeth (Walters) Larkin, died Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Sebastian Medical Center in Sebastian, FL.
Born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, he was the son of the late Joseph S. and Helen E. (Ward) Larkin. He was educated in the Pittsburgh School System and was a graduate the University of Notre Dame, Class of 1940. An honorably discharged veteran, Joseph served his country during WW II as a member of the U. S. Army Air Corps. Mr. Larkin has been employed as a District Sales Representative for Allis Chalmers Co. and also worked in industrial manufacturing for the industrial division of Ford Motor Company. A resident of Florida since 1986, Joseph had previously lived in the Town of Danvers from 1972 to 1985. He was a life member of the Kiwanis Club of Danvers and was a member of the Senior Softball League of Barefoot Bay, Fl.
In addition to his wife, with whom he shared 26 years of marriage, Joseph is survived by two daughters, Jane A. Alden and her husband Chuck of Wakefield, Sally L. Bettencourt of Danvers, three sons Joseph W. Larkin, Jr. and his wife Lydia of DesPlaines, IL, Theodore A. Larkin and his wife Lucy of Wenham, one step-daughter Joanna Nast of Merritt Island, FL, 22 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, one sister, Helen Greig of Erie, PA, a daughter-in-law, Linda Larkin of Glenview, IL and many nieces and nephews. He was also the father of the late James A. Larkin and Francis R. Larkin and step father of the late Donna Berry and the brother of the late Frank Larkin and Ted Larkin.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral services were held privately. Assisting the family with the arrangements is the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home 167 Maple St., (rte. 62) Danvers.
