Joseph Mulligan Obituary

BEVERLY-Mr. Joseph Mulligan, 88, of Beverly, beloved husband of Carol (Lovering) Mulligan, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2020 at Beverly Hospital.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Joseph P. and Esther (Broderick) Mulligan and predeceased by sister, Shirley (Mulligan) Abbott. He was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School, class of 1951. Joseph continued his education receiving a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Merrimack College where he had the distinction of being part of the first graduating Engineering class in 1955.

Joe embarked on a long and distinguished career with Cleverton, Varney and Pike as a Structural Engineer for many years. He later became Director of Facilities at Salem State University until the time of his retirement.

A loving husband, father, and grandfather Joe was devoted to his family. He could always be counted on for his support and guidance. He enjoyed family trips to Cape Cod and spending time at their cottage. He was happy, easy going and always willing to lend a hand. Joe enjoyed the camaraderie and competition of a good game of golf and the solitude of fishing. He will be remembered for his love of family and friends, his kind and gentle manner and deeply missed all that knew him.

Surviving Joe, in addition to his wife Carol with whom he shared 58 years of marriage are his children; Donna Mulligan of Beverly and Joseph Mulligan and his wife Jennifer of Haverhill and his grandchildren; Joseph and Liam Mulligan of Haverhill and several nieces and nephews.
