DANVERS- Mrs. Joyce Elora (Garland) Johnstone of Brooksby Village, Peabody, formerly of Danvers, beloved wife of Richard A. Johnstone, passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 11th, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family. Born in Henniker, New Hampshire, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Marion (Brown) Garland. She was raised and educated in Henniker and was a graduate of Henniker High School. She continued her education at Fisher College in Boston. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Joyce devoted her life to her family and faith. She took great pride in providing a warm and welcoming home for her family. Later in life after her children were grown, she began a career with the Danvers Public School System having worked at Danvers High School for many years. Joyce was devoted to her family and faith. She was a 61 year member of the Maple Street Congregational Church in Danvers and was active in the Women's Guild, the Maple Eves and loved to sing in the choir. She cherished the fellowship of the Maple Street Church Community. She was a longtime resident of the Town of Danvers and moved to Brooksby Village 10 years ago where she also made many friends. She will be missed by all. Joyce is survived by her loving husband of nearly 70 years, Richard A. Johnstone, her son Bruce Johnstone and his wife Beth of Annapolis Md., her daughters, Kathy Romano of Methuen, Susan Fontaine and her husband Dennis of Dracut and Karen Dorman of Pelham, N.H., her grandchildren, Jason Romano, Jamie (Laura) Johnstone, Elizabeth (Michael) Braniff, Jennifer (Mathew) Elder, Zachary Dorman, Olivia Dorman, Jacob Dorman, Rachel (Tim) Johnson and John (Jennifer) Green, her seven great grandchildren, and her dear cousin Christine Trow. She was predeceased by her cherished sister Ruth Eames.
ARRANGEMENTS: Her funeral service will be held in the Maple Street Congregational Church, Maple St., Danvers, Thursday Dec. 15th at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial is private. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) Danvers, Wednesday, Dec. 14th from 4 to 7 P.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Joyce's memory to the Maple Street Congregational Church, Memorial Fund, Maple St., Danvers, MA 01923 or to the Brooksby Village Benevolent Care Fund, 200 Brooksby Village Dr., Peabody, MA 01960.
