PEABODY - Judith C. (Henrikson) Cheverie, formerly of Boxford, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 31, 2022, after a long illness. She is survived by her husband of 52 yrs., Dr. Bernard F. Cheverie, 2 sons, Christopher and his wife Sheila, Peter and his wife Dianna. She was also the proud grandmother of Eva, Christopher, Maddie, and Gwen.
Judy was born in Concord, NH, but moved to Beverly, MA at age 3. She was a graduate of Beverly High School, Framingham State University with a B.S. in Education (where she also co-wrote the class song), and Salem State University where she earned a Masters in Education.
Judy began teaching in the Beverly Public Schools as a 3rd, 4th, and 6th grade teacher. She also taught for The Department of Defense in their overseas Air Force schools- 2 yrs. in Germany and 2 yrs. in Japan. During this time, she travelled extensively throughout Europe, the Middle East, and the Far East. Judy looked forward to the annual summer reunions with the Overseas Department of Defense teachers. She was a lifetime member of the National Education Association. Judy was also a Sunday school teacher for over 40 years at the Community Covenant Church in West Peabody.
When her sons were born, she stayed home with them and when they were in pre-school she started substituting at the pre-school. Judy was eventually asked to teach pre-K classes, which she did for several years in Boxford and Topsfield.
Her interests were reading, music, and theatre, playing piano, and needlepoint. When her husband retired, they moved from their home in Boxford to Brooksby Village.
ARRANGEMENTS - Her memorial service will be held at Community Covenant Church, 33 Lake St., Peabody, Friday, August 19th at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will be private at the Boxford Village Cemetery. Assisting the family with the arrangements is O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) DANVERS.
