MARBLEHEAD – L. Frances Mitchell, 94 of Marblehead, Massachusetts, died peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2020, at Alliance Health at Devereux, in Marblehead.
Born in Beverly, she was the daughter of the late Harry Sayen Mitchell and Maude Frances (Raymond) Mitchell.
She was educated in the Beverly Public Schools, then received an Associate’s Degree from Endicott College, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Salem State College, a Master of Education Degree from the University of New Hampshire, and obtained state certification as a Guidance Counselor.
She began her career in Marblehead where she produced and directed class musicals. She transferred to the then new Clark School in Swampscott where she trained student teachers, was a merit teacher and spent a year in England as a recipient of a Fulbright Grant. When she returned she did a study of England’s open system of education which was put into effect in the Swampscott Public Schools.
