DANVERS - Lawrence Paul Drouin, 80, of Danvers died suddenly on July 8, 2019 of a heart attack after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. He was the devoted husband of Judith T. (Osgood) Drouin with whom he shared 56 years of marriage.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Paul T. and Doris E. Drouin. He graduated from Saugus High School in 1956. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Boston University and Master's of Music Education from the University of Lowell.
Larry had a 39-year career as a music educator, teaching in Ellsworth Maine for three years and in the Beverly Public Schools for 36 years. He dedicated his life to music education and played in many bands and was the conductor of the Oniontown Nightlighters.
An avid golfer and long-time member of Wenham Country Club, Larry had many hobbies including traveling, gardening, bird watching, and routing for the Red Sox. Most of all, Larry enjoyed spending time at the beach with family and friends.
He was a long-time resident of Danvers and a member of Maple Street Congregational Church, where he served as a deacon, was a member of the choir and served on numerous committees.
In addition to Judy, Larry is survived by his son Gregory L. Drouin and his wife Ina of Danvers and their two children Christopher and Jason; his daughter Laura D. Cordani and her husband Tony of Douglas and their two children Taryn and Dean, his sister Joyce E. Fowler of Danvers and many beloved nieces, nephews and family and friends from Maine. He was predeceased by his sister Janet E. Griffin and brother-in-law Philip E. Griffin and their daughter Linda R. Turgiss. He was also predeceased by his brother-in-law Richard W. Fowler.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to attend Larry's Celebration of Life which will be held in the Maple Street Congregational Church, 90 Maple Street, Danvers on Tuesday, July 16th at 11 A.M. Visiting hours in the Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Rte. 62) Danvers on Monday, July 15th from 4 to 7 P.M. As a life-long supporter of music and the arts, in lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Maple Street Church c/o Larry Drouin Memorial Music Fund, 90 Maple St., Danvers, MA 01923.
