IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Louis R.
Dean
December 1, 1934 – August 22, 2021
SALEM - Mr. Louis R. Dean, 86, of Salem, beloved husband of Arlene (Dupuis) Dean, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Beverly, he was the son of the late Joseph and Ethel (Herrick) Dean. He was raised and educated in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School.
An honorably discharged veteran, Mr. Dean proudly served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War.
Following his discharge from the service, Louis began an extensive career with United Shoe and Machinery Corporation in Beverly as a clerk in their shipping room. He possessed a strong work ethic and was dedicated to the company for over 40 years until the time of his retirement.
Quiet and a man of few words, Louis was happiest when surrounded by those he knew best, his family. He was an avid boater and enjoyed trips out on the water with his family. As a young man, he began lobstering with his father, later he enjoyed his speed boat the "Skyler" and his family's favorite, his pleasure boat the "Blue Echo". They had many enjoyable trips off the coast of Beverly and Salem and made many lasting memories.
Surviving Louis, in addition to his wife Arlene with whom he shared 54 years of marriage, are his children, Linda Engdahl and her boyfriend, Jim Hudson of Manchester NH, and his son, Jeffrey Knorr and his wife, Charlene of Salem, his brother, William Dean of Medford, his niece, Linda Bourque and her husband, Bill of Rowley, his 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Priscilla Dean.
