Louis Doyle Obituary

PEABODY - Louis J. Doyle, age 91, died peacefully at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers on Tuesday, January 24th, 2023 after a brief illness.

Born in Salem in 1932, he was the son of the late Joseph F. Doyle and Mary Alice (Hayes) Doyle of Salem. Louis grew up in Salem along with his 11 brothers and sisters.  He attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Salem High School in 1950.

In September 1955 Louis moved to New York City. He began work at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in November 1958 and retired from the museum in June 1993 after working in Security. He returned to the North Shore in October 2016.

He is survived by his sister, Ellen Tassinari of Beverly and 30 nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his sister-in-law, Kathy Doyle of San Diego, CA.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Joseph Doyle and Jackie Doyle of Salem, James Doyle of San Diego, Richard (Sam) Doyle of Beverly, the Honorable David T. Doyle and Peter Doyle of Salem, Philip Doyle of Chelmsford, Thomas Doyle of Salem and his sisters, Mary Doyle of Salem and Ann Kiley of Peabody.

Louis was a member of the Doyle family basketball team which participated in the National Family Basketball Championship in North Carolina in 1949.  The team made it to the semi-finals of the tournament before losing to the eventual winners. The family team also barnstormed New England playing both basketball and baseball.

He was a rare fan of both the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees having started life as a Red Sox fan and becoming a Yankees fan as long as they were not playing the Red Sox.  He told many stories of Ted Williams, Mickey Mantle and Joe DiMaggio as well as celebrity sightings in NYC and at the Museum.

In addition to baseball, Louis enjoyed discussing politics, interest rates and taking bus trips to gamble in Atlantic City.

The family appreciates the staff and community at Brooksby Village in Peabody for the warmth and care shown to Louie during his years there. The family also is grateful for the kindness shown to Louis during his stay at Kaplan House in Danvers.
