SALEM – Ms. Mary C. (Furfaro) Panevino, 88, passed away peacefully on Friday, April 7th, 2023 at Jeffrey & Susan Brudnick Center for Living in Peabody. She was born in Salem, the beloved daughter of the late Dominic and Josephine (Spinale) Furfaro.
Ms. Panevino was raised and educated in Salem, graduating from Salem High School in 1951. Having a compassionate and caring nature, Mary continued her education at the Lynn Hospital School of Nursing, receiving her diploma of nursing in 1955. She went on to work at Lynn Hospital, then was a visiting nurse for many years. Later in life Mary became a school nurse for the Salem School District working for the Bates School where she retired.
Mary was devoted to her Catholic faith and was a communicant of the former St. Mary’s Italian Church in Salem. She loved to volunteer at the Peter A Torigian Senior Center and Spaulding Rehab. She enjoyed exploring new shops, reading a good book, and was a fierce bingo player. Mary took many bus trips to Foxwoods Casino. Most of all, Mary enjoyed her family. She loved spending time with them and making lasting memories.
Mary is survived by her beloved granddaughter, Angela Panevino and her fiancé, Niccolo de Silva of Peabody, her sister, Ann Lewis of Boston, and son Joseph Panevino and his wife, Cheryl of Everett. She is preceded in death by her brother, Vincent Furfaro.
