Mary Twiss Obituary

PEABODY- Mrs. Mary (Riach) Twiss, 75 of Peabody, beloved wife of Peter Twiss, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Salem Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Glasgow, Scotland, she was the daughter of the late James and Euphemia (Black) Riach. She was raised by her grandmother and was educated in Scotland before immigrating to the United States at the age of eighteen, where she was sponsored by the Twiss family.

The pillar of the Twiss family, Mary was a loving and devoted mother and proud Navy wife. She was happiest when involved in her children’s many activities and was immensely proud of their many accomplishments. She was a staunch proponent for her children and during time spent in Philadelphia, the city schools were underperforming; Mary took it upon herself and became involved to create a new one, receiving a commendation from the Navy. She was an advocate, strong and steadfast in her belief that family should come first. She was unwavering in her love for her family and could always be depended on to help, give support and love. She will be deeply missed by her loving family (in the US and abroad) and the many lives she touched.

Surviving Mary, in addition to her husband Peter with whom she shared 56 years of marriage, are Natalie Twiss (daughter,) Heather Twiss (daughter) and Binh Pham (son-in-law) and her granddaughter, Jessica Twiss all of Peabody. She was also the mother of the late Iain Twiss.
