NAPLES, FLORIDA – Mr. Michael Thomas Keating, 74 of Naples, Florida and Groveland, Massachusetts, beloved husband of Claire (Bogel) Lopata and the late Constance (Guastella) Keating and father of the late James Keating, died peacefully, with his loving family by his side on April 18th, 2023.
Born in Lynn, he was the son of the late Harold and Kathleen (Hart) Keating. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Bishop Fenwick High School. He continued his education attending Merrimack College.
An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Army.
Mr. Keating was a graduate of the General Electric Apprentice program. He began a long successful career with the company that would last decades. He worked in the Aircraft Engine Division, first at the River Works Plant in Lynn and then for many years at the Hooksett, NH location until the time of his retirement. In retirement, he was recruited for many projects as a private contractor with GE. He was highly respected in his field for his professional acumen.
With an outgoing and affable nature, Mike made friends easily. He had friendships that span the globe, both personally and professionally. He enjoyed spending his time fishing as a member of the fishing club in Island Walk. Prior to moving to Naples, he had resided in Kingston, NH and Groveland for many years. He loved to golf and was a member of the GE Golf League in New Hampshire. Mike lived life to the fullest. His positive energy and passion for living a full life was contagious. Mike and Claire traveled extensively all over the globe, yet he was just as content at home on his lanai working on his tomato plants. He loved to share the “fruits” of his labor with neighbors and friends. Yet he was his most gratified when surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
Michael is survived by his loving wife, Claire (Bogel) Lopata of Naples, FL, and Groveland, MA, his children, John Keating and his partner, Joanna Gordon of Derry, NH and Kathleen Keating and her significant other, William Couture of Manchester, NH, his step children, Justin Lopata and his wife Amy of Groveland and Kristin Martinello and her husband, Lou of Groveland, his 7 grandchildren, Peter, Emma, Cate and Jack Lopata, Liam Keating, and Louie and Tessa Martinello, his sister, Rosemary Hagan of Jackson, NH, his brother, Thomas Keating of Kingston, NH and many nieces and nephews and friends. He was the husband of the late Constance (Guastella) Keating, father of the late James Keating and brother-in-law of the late Albert Hagan.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 167 Maple St., (rte 62) DANVERS, Wednesday, May 3rd at 9:15 A.M. followed by his funeral Mass at St. Mary of the Annunciation Church, Conant St., Danvers at 10 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Forrest Hill Cemetery, Derry, NH. Visiting hours Tuesday, May 2nd from 4 to 7 P.M.
