SALEM – Mr. Oscar R. Begin, 87, passed away Thursday, July 21st, 2022, while under hospice care at the Brockton VA Medical Center, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Salem, he was the son of Raymond and Alice (Portleance) Begin. Mr. Begin was raised and educated in Salem, graduating from Salem High School.
Following graduation, Oscar went on to honorably serve in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Japan working as an Aircraft Mechanic.
Upon returning home, Oscar became a painter and began his own painting business. Always looking for a challenge, Oscar decided to broaden his horizons in the painting world and later went on to become a Lead Paint Inspector.
Oscar was devoted to his Catholic faith and a communicant of Ste. Anne’s Parish in Salem, where he also served as a Eucharistic Minister for weekend Mass. An animal lover at heart, Oscar enjoyed owning and raising Rottweilers throughout his life. He will be deeply missed.
Oscar is survived by his sister, Gabrielle Morin of Arizona, his niece, Lori-Anne Morin of Arizona, and his close friends; Kevin Rybak of Salem, Jackie Bergeron of Marblehead, Lawrence Bradley of Lynn, and Kevin O’Neil of Salem.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held graveside, in the veterans section (Chapel Hill), at Greenlawn Cemetery, Orne St., Salem, Thursday, July 28th at 10 A.M.
