Patrick Ambrose Obituary

Chief Patrick Michael Ambrose

Danvers Police Department

DANVERS – Mr. Patrick Michael Ambrose, 57, Chief of the Town of Danvers Police Department, beloved husband of Wendy Leigh (Coviello) Ambrose, died unexpectedly, January 16, 2021 at Beverly Hospital following a medical incident.

Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Danvers Police Sergeant John Ambrose and the late Mary (Connell) Ambrose. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of Danvers High School, Class of 1981. He continued his education earning his Bachelor’s Degree from Hesser College. He earned his Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from Western New England College.

Chief Ambrose joined the Town of Danvers Police Department in 1985 as a Reserve Officer. He was appointed as a full-time Officer in 1987. More promotions followed as he became a Sergeant in 1999, Lieutenant in 2003 and Captain in 2005. He was appointed Chief of Police for the Town of Danvers in 2016 and held that office until the time of his retirement on January 8th, 2021. Chief Ambrose was well respected by his fellow Chiefs of Police and especially revered by his fellow Danvers Police Officers. He was known for his steadfast commitment to his home town and its residents. Chief Ambrose carried himself with great dignity and respect. A humble and true gentleman by nature, his guidance and leadership allowed the Town of Danvers Police Department to provide exceptionally professional, ethical and engaging police services for all its citizens. He was a tremendous leader, a loyal friend, a steadfast mentor and dedicated public servant. His imprint on the Danvers Police Department will last for generations.

A loving husband, father, brother, uncle and friend, Pat enjoyed spending his free time riding his Harley and fishing. He had a great sense of humor and his dry wit and sarcastic humor will be remembered by all. He was a member of the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association.

He was a great role model for his family as he possessed a steadfast quality of character. He was extremely close to his children and was proud of all of their achievements. He appreciated spending time with his kids watching sports, cooking and completing projects around the house. He was a devoted husband, partner and best friend to his beloved Wendy. He dedicated his life to others: his family, his friends, his fellow officers and the Town of Danvers.

Patrick is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Wendy Leigh (Coviello) Ambrose of Danvers, his children, Danvers Police Officer, Patrick Ambrose Jr, Brenna Ambrose and Aidan Ambrose all of Danvers, his sisters, Mary Dumais and her husband, Bert of Winthrop, ME and Kathy MacDonald and her husband, Brian of Danvers, his brother, Jack Ambrose and his wife, Marcia of West Jefferson, NC and several nieces and nephews.
