BEVERLY – Mr. Paul John Duggan, 80, passed away after a long illness on Saturday, September 9th, 2023 at Ledgewood Rehabilitation and Skilled Nursing. He was the son of life long Salem residents, the late John Henry and Geraldine F. (Monaghan) Duggan.
Mr. Duggan graduated from Saint Mary’s Boys High School in Lynn. He was a Vietnam Veteran, honorably serving in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1968. After his return, he went on to obtain his associates degree in science from North Shore Community College. Paul was employed as a head cook and manager at the International House of Pancakes in Peabody, as well as a restaurant maître d’ at the General Clover. Later in life he changed direction and worked in the field of health care at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates as an access representative from 2000 to 2020.
Old time radio and reading were his first passions; he especially enjoyed science fiction and mystery thrillers. Paul was immersed in anything to do with the Boston Bruins. With an intense interest in history, and love for travel, Paul adventured around the world.
Paul is survived by his life-long partner, Deborah Kako, brother-in-law; Henry McLaughlin, his cousins; James, Kathy, and Geraldine, as well as his niece, nephew, cousin, Nancy Lorraine and her husband, Lee, and Godson, Jason. Family can also be the family we choose in life. There were many special relationships through the years, like Wendy from Harvard Vanguard, Diane and Rocky The Navy Man, Carolyn, Carol Jean, Carol Ann, Cathy Oh, Pam, Trish, and Maureen. Paul was the father of the late Danielle Duggan of Pembroke, and loving brother of Christine McLaughlin, and pet parent to Herbert the Japanese Chin.
ARRANGEMENTS: Private burial will be held in Cedar Grove Cemetery, with a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Assisting the family with arrangements is O’Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) SALEM.
