November 22, 1944 – December 4, 2021
DANVERS – Mr. Peter A. Gongas, 77, of Danvers, beloved husband of Georgia (Frazier) Gongas, died Saturday, December 4, 2021at Beverly Hospital, following a battle with Covid-19.
Born in Salem, he was the son of the late Arthur and Margaret (O'Leary) Gongas. He was raised and educated in Danvers and was a graduate of the Former Holten High School of Danvers.
Mr. Gongas had been employed for over 25 years with the State of Massachusetts at the Danvers State Hospital in the Facilities Division until the time of his retirement. He used his skills as a welder, roofer, and metalworker, and also took care of any day-to-day maintenance needs around the facility.
A lifelong resident of the Town of Danvers, Peter was devoted to his family. He was a proud grandfather to his four beloved grandchildren, and he and his wife, Georgia, dedicated their time to help raise them. He enjoyed road trips with his beloved wife, to New Hampshire and Maine, and spending time at Lake Winnipesaukee. Peter enjoyed tending to his garden, cooking his famous meatballs, and socializing on Saturday nights out. He was an avid firearm collector and enjoyed visiting the shooting range with his longtime friend, Malcom Hayes. Above all else his family always came first.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of over 50 years, Georgia (Frazier) Gongas of Danvers, his sons, Peter Gongas Jr of Hollywood, FL, Christopher Gongas and his companion, Julie Murphy of Lynn, Arthur Gongas of Contoocook, NH, and Matthew Gongas and Cheryl Cummings of Danvers, and his grandchildren, Makayla, Madison, Mia, and Milanna.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held graveside at Annunciation Cemetery, Hobart St., Danvers, Monday, Dec. 13th at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited.
