Obituary

MARBLEHEAD- Mr. Peter B. Meo 97, of Marblehead, beloved husband of the late Olga (Cavallo) Meo, died Thursday morning at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, following a short illness. Born in Punxsutawney, PA, he was the son of the late Dominick and Pasqua (Basile) Meo. He was raised and educated in Boston and was a graduate of Boston English High School. He continued his education at Northeastern University in Boston. A long time well-known Salem Business man, Mr. Meo was the proprietor of the former Colonial Men's Clothing Store on Essex Street in Salem for over thirty three years. Mr. Meo provided fine men's clothing and outerwear for many of the business men on the North Shore. The Colonial Men's Store was a fixture in downtown Salem for many years, as was its proprietor, Peter, who was known for his business acumen, his fine quality of service and dedication to his community. Active in professional and civic circles, Peter was a long time member of the Salem Rotary Club, the Salem Chamber of Commerce, a board member of the Salem Five Cents Savings Bank, a member of the board of directors of the Salvation Army, North Shore Corps, the Salem Lions Club and he contributed much time and effort to the planning and fruition of the New Salem-Beverly Bridge. Peter was a long time resident of the Town of Marblehead and a dedicated Member of the Old North Church in Marblehead. He was a gentleman through and through from the clothing he provided to his daily interaction with others. He was a man of respect and dignity who will be deeply missed. Peter is survived by his sons, Peter B. Meo Jr. and his wife Grace of Hamilton and Robert B. Meo and his wife Jean of North Smithfield, R.I., his five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and his sister, Mary Lawless of Bedford, MA and several nieces and nephews.

ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral service will be held in The O'Donnell Funeral Home 46 Washington Sq., (at Salem Common) Salem, Monday at 11 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Visting hours prior to the funeral from 9:30 am to 11 A.M. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in Peter's memory to the American Heart Association, 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701
