PEABODY-Mr. Peter E. Twiss, 78, of Peabody, beloved husband of the late Mary (Riach) Twiss, passed away on Monday, June 21, 2021 at Beverly Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Peabody he was the son of the late Edward and Bertha (Punchard) Twiss. He was raised and educated in Peabody and was a graduate of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School.
Following graduation, Peter enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country for 20 years achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He received several medals and commendations for his bravery during the Vietnam War and through his professionalism proved himself a true leader. During his tenure in the armed forces, Peter also met the love of his life, Mary. A devoted Navy wife they married and together they shared 56 years of marriage.
Upon his discharge from the Navy the family returned to Peabody where he went to work for Eastern Smelting in Lynn for several years and later was the head of Maintenance at the Jewish Community Center in Marblehead, until the time of his retirement. Throughout his professional career Peter’s strong work ethic was evident.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he was the protector of the family. He worked hard every day to support them. He was strong, funny and was always there for them. He was devoted to his country and family and he will be deeply missed by them.
Surviving Peter are his daughters, Natalie Twiss and Heather Twiss, his son-in-law, Binh Pham, his granddaughter, Jessica Twiss and his great-grandson, Jayce Twiss Cordeiro. He was also the father of the late Iain Twiss.
