SALEM - Mr. Richard J. Coffin 91, of Salem, beloved husband of the late Nicolina (Vetro) Coffin, died Wednesday, January 17, 2018 at Hawthorne Hill Nursing Home in Danvers. Born in East Boston, he was the son of the late Melbourne and Lucy (Surrette) Coffin. He was raised and educated in East Boston attending St. John's School. An honorably discharged veteran, he served his country as a member of the United States Navy as a gunner on Merchant Ships. Mr. Coffin began his professional career with Boston Ship yard as a welder. For many years Officer Coffin had been employed as a Police officer with the City of Salem police Department until the time of his retirement. A loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Richard was devoted to his family. He was an avid sports fan, always had a soft spot in his heart for animals, enjoyed working on projects around the house and loved to take in mother nature from his home window watching over his neighborhood. Above all else family always came first. He will be deeply missed. Richard is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Casey of Salem, his granddaughters, Jennifer Gagne and her husband Ryan of Chester, N.H. and Kellie Garon and her husband John of Salem, N.H., his six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Bertha Surette and Kenny, Harold and Roy Coffin.
ARRANGEMENTS: His funeral will be held from The Peterson-O'Donnell Funeral Home, 167 Maple St., (Rte 62) Danvers, Saturday, Jan. 20th at 8:15 A.M. followed by his funeral Mass in St. James Church, Federal St., Salem at 9 A.M. Relatives and friends invited. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. Visiting hours (TODAY) Friday, Jan. 19th from 4 to 7 P.M.
